Description
Design: The E2643 features a robust, vintage aesthetic with a 40mm stainless steel case and sharp, beveled lugs. Most versions have a distinctive “reverse panda” dial—a matte black face with three contrasting white subdials—that offers excellent legibility.
Movement: At its core is the manual-winding Valjoux 72 caliber, a highly respected movement that was also used in other iconic chronographs, including the Rolex Daytona and Heuer Autavia. Some variations may have a JLC Cal. 13 VZH, which is a variant of the Valjoux R 72.
Dial variation: this reverse panda dial is most desirable version of the E2643 feature a matte black dial with white subdials. The “LeCoultre” signature on the dial indicates it was originally sold in the North American market.
Bezel options: This model is offered with a lovely patina black anodized aluminum bezels, including 60-minute bezel usually on this “Shark Deep Sea”
Tritium lume: The hour markers and hands are filled with tritium, indicated by the “T Swiss T” marking on the dial. Over time, this original lume typically has developed a warm, creamy-yellow patina that is highly valued by collectors.
Collector status: The E2643 was produced in very limited numbers, making well-preserved examples extremely scarce and valuable. Original, unpolished cases, crisp dial inscriptions, and full sets with extra bezels and boxes command premium prices in the vintage watch market.
