1953 Omega ‘53 RAF 6B/542 Fat Arrow Military Pilot’s Watch
SOLD
All original superb example of these highly collectible Omega ‘53 RAF issued watches.
These were a special order by the British MoD of only 5,900 pieces and only in 1953.
The specifications were for a watch that would not be upset by the instrumentation in the Jet fighter cockpit. So, the movement of this watch watch is entirely encased in soft iron (dial and dust cover both made of soft iron) thereby creating a Faraday Cage protecting the movement against magnetisation.
These watches gave rise to the later Railmaster model.
This is such a lovely example with creamy honey-coloured matching Lume.
The stainless steel case is in superb condition, one of the best we’ve seen.
The dial is jet black and in good condition for its age with some bubbling at the edge as is normal and common with these models.
Overall, a lovely example of a highly collectible and everyday wearable watch
This lovely condition Omega ‘53 has a faded lume Titrium British MoD “Fat Arrow” dial and original inner soft iron Dust Cover and Crenelated Movement Ring.
It has all the correct military issue markings on the caseback.
The case measures a very nice 37mm in diameter not including the large original military winding crown.
