This is one of the rarest Rolex you will find. A rare 1957 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, reference 6605 in stunning original condition. This is the first Rolex Datejust ever made in a stainless steel case. Before this date they were all made in solid yellow or pink gold. As James Dowling’s book “The Best of Time” states on page 233, “Around 1957 they became available in stainless steel for the first time.” This watch has the highly desirable “Roulette” (alternating red and black) date wheel. This watch’s serial number is 323,405 dating it to 1957 and making it among the first of this particular steel model with the semi-bubbleback case and finely milled solid 18k white gold bezel. In addition, this Datejust had the new 1065 calibre movement, first introduced by Rolex at the Basel Watch Fair in in 1957. This movement allowed Rolex to move beyond the full “bubbleback” case and into the new slimmer design seen here. The watch is 100% original, including the stunning silver dial and the date wheel. This watch is in excellent condition having just been fully serviced and restored with a beautiful big polished case. The chronometer movement has just been fully cleaned and the auto work repaired and the watch is running beautifully and keeping perfect time. The original Rolex silver dial is in perfect condition with the original beautiful Rolex dagger-shaped hands. A classic vintage big Rolex.
