In 1948, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced a power reserve indicator designed for production in a series of watches called the Powermatic which utilized the LeCoultre Caliber 481. Thus, Jaeger-LeCoultre was ostensibly the first watchmaking company to launch wristwatches with a power reserve indicator to the market. This makes this watch one of the very first watches ever to feature a power reserve indicator and is the much harder to find European model signed “Jaeger LeCoultre” (there are lots of later US market with just “LeCoultre” on the dial) . This Jaeger LeCoultre calibre 481 utilizes a differential device to show the power reserve stored in either a self-winding or hand-wound mainspring with an attractive power reserve window which turns red when the watch power is running down and which can be restored to the full 40 hours reserve by simply wearing or winding the watch (this watch is automatic). Beautiful high grade watch. Many more high resolution photographs of this watch are available on request.
