1960’s Heuer Carrera 45 Dato Ref. 3147N. Mint Original Superb Black Dial with Contrasting One White Sub-Dial and Date Window at 9. First Chronograph with a Date Function. Comes with Heuer Buckle
In mint original condition, this rare Heuer Carrera reference 3417N is known as the Dato 45. This watch was the first chronograph watch to have a date function. It is featured on page 136 of Heuer reference book “Heuer Chronographen” – although our one is in considerably better condition – and was auctioned at Bonhams in London’s Bond Street late last year. The following is taken directly from the seminal Heuer web-site “On The Dash” – “Heuer introduced the Carrera 45 Dato in 196X, as the first chronograph to have a rotating disc for the date. All Carrera 45 Datos have first execution dials (thin, flat polished steel applied markers) and first execution hands (thin polished steel hands, with luminous inserts). Movements are Landeron 189. The Dato 45s use the “60’s Style” Carrera case, although the case-back is modified to accomodate the slightly deeper Landeron 189 movement. The crown is correctly unsigned (i.e., they do not have the “Heuer” logo).” To quote from the early 1960’s Heuer Catalogue in which this watch featured “There are not many chronographs made that incorporate an automatic calendar but the Dato is one which we thoroughly recommend. The design is simplicity itself and ideal for the business man who needs a chronograph but can never remember the date. The Dato is available with leather strap in black or white dial. 17 jewel movement, lever movement, waterproof case, compensated hairspring, unbreakable mainspring and glass, incablock shockproofing with an all steel case, 1/5th second stopwatch, ability to stop and start without zeroing recorder and 45 minute register. The dial is luminous and the design is modern and easy to read. immensely popular since its recent introduction.” Model No. 3147N
