Omega Speedmaster Professional 1967 “Pre-Moon” Cal. 321 Ref. SP-145.012-67 The Watch Selected by NASA for the Apollo 11 Moon Landings. Original Applied Logo Stepped Dial. Speedmaster 1171 Bracelet
Made in 1967 and chosen by NASA for the first Moon-landings, this original Omega Speedmaster calibre 321 is in near mint condition for its age, one of the best examples we have ever seen. The original luminous paint has faded evenly over the years to a lovely honey colour and matches the hands. This vintage Speedmaster Moonwatch is the model reference 145.012-67 SP from 1967 and is one of the true classics. It is all original Omega. The jet-black mint condition stepped “pie-pan” dial with large applied metal Omega logo is in mint condition with the tell-tale aged luminous paint at 6 o’clock stretching all the way down to the outer dial to indicate a correct period dial. The hands are all original to this watch with original lume matching perfectly with the dial. The case-back has the Omega “Sea-monster” logo in exceptional condition with no rubbing down as so many have from years of wear. This watch was obviously lightly used. The beautiful Omega calibre 321 movement is in sparkling condition and the pushers are original. The bezel is original and in really exceptionally good condition with the dot above, not to the side of, the “90”. Nothing “Frankenstein” or put together here, this watch is original and these “321 Speedies” have risen in price dramatically over the last years. The reason may be that on 21st July, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin were the first men to walk on the moon. The watch they took with them on that Apollo XI mission was this exact model (145.012-67) Speedmaster, chosen by NASA after long and stringent tests. Omega in Switzerland have confirmed that they supplied NASA with this model reference 145.012-67 for the Apollo XI mission. This model, with calibre 321 movement, was only made by Omega for the two years between 1966 and 1968 and is very hard to find now, let alone in this condition. The Omega movement serial number on this watch is 25,008,896 and the Omega case reference number is 145.012-67 SP both correctly dating it to 1967. It is thought that Neil Armstrong left his watch in the Space Module but that Buzz Aldrin walked onto the moon with his and therefore, the watch for sale here is the first watch ever worn on the moon and as such is the original “Moonwatch”. A very rare and hard to find watch in this original condition. Comes in original Omega 1960’s Speedmaster Box. Many more pictures available upon request.
