1944 Omega Suveran Ref. 2400 Rare Dial Configuration with Large Screw-Back Case
This Omega model is considered highly collectible.
The model was made by Omega in Switzerland on special order from the Swedish government to be resold in Sweden. The Swedish government wanted to resell the watch to the Swedish public during WW2 in order to finance the Swedish armed forces as an alternative to war bonds.
The model was given the specific reference number 2400-X where X indicates the specific dial version, which in this case is the very rare 2400-3.
This Omega model is also known as the “Suveran” which in Swedish means sovereign, as Sweden considered itself sovereign during WW2.
The model came with two different back cases the more common has “SUVERAN” engraved on the caseback, whilst this other, rarer variant has “ANTIMAGNETISK – VATTENTAT – STÖTSKYDDAD“ (which in Swedish means “antimagnetic – waterproof – shockproof”) engraved on the caseback. Both models were exclusively produced to the Swedish government and in limited numbers, which explains why the model is considered rarer and highly collectible. Both models are relatively hard to come by especially in this condition and with this wonderful dial!
This Omega Suveran 1944 is powered by Omega’s 30T2 PC which is a variant of Omega’s legendary 30T2 military movement. The difference between the two is that this version has the added benefit of an incabloc shock absorber and became the 30T2 PC AM and the movement is in absolutely amazing condition.
This is a really lovely Omega “Suveran” with an original rare and very attractive dial in superb condition with original blued-steel seconds hand.
Lovely condition steel crew-back case with Suveran markings on the caseback measuring large 35mm in diameter not counting the original crown.
Legendary Omega Calibre 30T2 manual winding movement running strong and keeping very good time.
These watches were a special order from by the Swedish Government from Omega during WW2 for re-sale to the public to boost the War-time Swedish Economy. Very collectible.
